The Stone
A bet between two rival families weighs heavily on a Basque love triangle in “The Stone,” the sophomore effort of Spanish writer-director Alberto J. Gorritiberea (“Eutsi!”). Though too long and dramatically not entirely convincing, this good-looking portrait of village life in the Basque country is well thesped and frequently immersive. Multilingual feature won five prizes at the Malaga fest in March, including first feature and actress for Begona Maestre, and further sprocket-opera screenings should ensure the film doesn’t gather moss for a good while yet.
