My father would quote the above poem of Sir Walter Scott in discussing ove of country. It would seem that globalisation is being put forward s a reason for downplaying the concept of nationalism. Yet the developed countries that we aspire to emulate by our concept of developed country status” do not destroy nationalism when they promote lobalisation. Further Eastern Europe is splitting into a number of mall states and other relatively small areas worldwide (such as, the Basque region in France and Spain, Tibet, Quebec in Canada and perhaps obago) are motivated by nationalism to call for autonomy.
