Every year, American travel website Travel & Leisure organizes the World’s Best Awards, asking its readers to rate different types of tourist destinations: hotels, cities, cruises, etc.

While this year has obviously been strange, and it’s been difficult for travel lovers, voting was open between January 11th and May 10th of 2021, and the results were finally released this week.

Although we didn’t find any Basque hotels in the top 100, the same is not true of cities.  San Sebastian is ranked 15th among the 25 most highly rated cities in the world.  Only one other city on the peninsula, with tons of harm and history of its own, shares this list with Donostia: Porto, ranked 25th.

Seeing the list of the highest-ranked cities, it would seem the voters in the survey have good taste.  That opinion was confirmed when we saw San Sebastian among the Top 25 World’s Best Cities..

Ah!  And if you were wondering what impact this magazine has, we’ll just mention that, for example, their Twitter account has 4 million followers, and their Instagram account, almost 6 million.

The 25 Best Cities in the World

This year’s World’s Best Awards survey was open for voting January 11 through May 10, 2021, as destinations around the world were lifting COVID-19 restrictions. Survey rules have always allowed readers to reflect on their travel experiences over a three-year period. We hope that this year’s honorees will inspire your own travels as you get back out into the world.
