Our regular readers will recognize Bizkaia Talent, the foundation whose objective is to attract and recover talent for Basque society. Normally we talk about their efforts for recovering the Basque talent that “got away” from us in the past.
Today, however, we’re bringing up this Foundation because of the international recognition of its work and the way it goes about doing it that they just received. And it’s not the first time. Back in January of this year that’s now coming to an end, when we were covering the marvelous rank Bilbao reached in the first edition of the Global Talent Competitiveness Index (GTCI) Report, drawn up in Davos, we also highlighted that in that ranking, the Bizkaia Talent project was named, and in held in high esteem.
On this occasion, we’re bringing you an event that goes one step further. This award is directly for the work Bizkaia Talent carries out, handed out by La Chaire Attractivité & Nouveau Marketing Territorial – Chaire A&NMT (Regional Attractiveness & Place Marketing chair).
This organization was founded by more than 20 prestigious authorities in France, and it is currently backed by public and private enterprises throughout Europe. It’s the first Chair in the world dedicated to attractiveness and new territorial marketing practices.
For the past seven years, they’ve been organizing the Place Marketing Forum, and event that brings together experts in “Place Marketing“, which is a tool for planning and managing cities and regions in order to improve their overall quality and to respond to its citizens’ needs.
As a part of this event, Chaire A&NMT is holds a ceremony to “benchmark” and award international marketing best practices every year. This is the Place Marketing Awards, which is handed out as a part of the Place Marketing Forum. The seventh awards ceremony is to be handed out in April 2020, and will focus on five big areas: Branding, Tourism, Major Projects, Economic Development, and Territories with Specificity.
And on Thursday at noon, the recipients of the awards in each of the areas were made known.

and the recipient of the award that they selected was Bizkaia Talent.
They explain their choice by saying that “Bizkaia Talent offers companies, organizations and individuals a wide range of services dedicated to attracting talent. A web platform disseminates information about Bilbao and its region (key figures, identity, quality of life, etc.). It also identifies opportunities and possible aids or networks that can be mobilized. By conducting strategic reflections and leading networks of ambassadors at European level, the association has succeeded in attracting new professionals, bringing back members of the Basque diaspora and taking advantage of Brexit.”
This Basque foundation has created a unique network in the world, joining together professionals from all over the world and Basque companies. This network doesn’t close its doors to anyone, wherever they live, or wherever they’re from. It’s a clear example of the inclusive and integrating nature of Be Basque that is strengthening the socio-cultural integration of the people who come to the Basque Country from all over the globe. This philosophy is spelled out clearly on their website: We recruit, engage and retain talent.
And in order to fulfill that, they have powerful tools that in some cases are quite innovative and unique. One of them helps to find qualified professionals who are looking to work in the Basque Country and join the Basque labor market. Another is aimed at HR professionals in Basque organizations that are looking to recruit.
