Every year, TripAdvisor publishes its Travelers’ Choice list, which rewards travelers’ favorite beaches, destination, hotels, restaurants, and activities all over the world.  To that end, it collects the opinions and scores given over the past twelve months, meaning these awards correspond to 2022.

In two of the five categories, Basques represent.  To be more specific, Gipuzkoa appears in the categories of beaches and restaurants.

In the first list, beaches, this website’s users have ranked La Concha in San Sebastian as the 15th best beach of the Top 25 in the world (and the fourth in Europe).  And, might we add, this perception cannot be separated from the visitors’ general perceptions of the city, as it is an urban beach located in the heart of the city.  That makes the “La Concha experience” quite special.

In the second list, we find a “permanent resident” among the best restaurants in the world.  We’re referring, of course, to Martín Berastegui‘s restaurant in Lasarte-Oria, ranked fifth in the world and fourth in Europe.

We’ve referenced these lists on other occasions, and we can see that this two Basque locales have been on this list for a long time.

Our country and our culture, in its widest definition, have quite the drawing power.  But, as we said in an entry commenting on an article in the New York Times:

We’ve said the same thing many times before.  The risk of dying of success that a country as small, and attractive, as ours is huge.  If we don’t do things right, we run the risk of becoming a sort of Basque theme park for tourists: all show, no soul.

We’ll leave you with the links to the TripAdvisor awards.
