Musician and researcher Josu Okiñena named a member of La Bascongada

We’ve spoken about composer, researcher, and professor Josu Okiñena on many occasions, especially regarding the Batura Zikola he organizes, where, with other works and authors, he shares the oeuvre of Basque composers from the diaspora, such as Olazaran de Estella, Mugica, Tosar, Madina, and Zubeldia.  Indeed, we even prepared an article about the latter, here.

We’re discussing him again today because the Real Sociedad Bascongada de Amigos del País, or “La Bascongada,” has recognized his work by naming him a member.

This is just recompense for his work as a researcher, where he’s been working as a “musical archaeologist,” bringing back a substantial part of our own cultural heritage.
