Merca2.0 is an online Mexican magazine specialized in marketing, advertising, media, market research, promotion, and design. Every week, they publish a report highlighting ten ads from around the world.
These ads are chosen for their “creativity, execution, message, and impact. They’re commercials with great ideas that all marketers and publicists ought to see”. This week, in a selection compiled by Oswaldo Olivas, we’ve found a spot made in the Basque country by a Basque agency for a Basque customer.
It’s the brilliant spot made by the San Sebastian agency Dimensión for Topa Sukalderia, also in San Sebastian, and we came across the spot via the latter. The fact it’s taken us so long to come across a Basque spot is because they’re usually lumped in together with either “France” or “Spain”, making them harder to find.
As we said, because the ad was for Topa Sukalderia, we were able to find it. The place is a Basque-Latin American restaurant which:
“celebrates centuries of history that join the Basques and Latin Americans. This is the place where both cuisines meet in order to share products, flavors, recipes, stories, and customs, always with the wish to enjoy, discover, and have a good time.”
We’re fascinated by the fact that the name of the restaurant, Topa, has the same meaning, “come across”, in three languages: Basque, Spanish, and Guarani.
We also enjoyed , the “daugter website” of Topa Sukalderia, which offers recipes from the other side of the ocean, but always with a “base” very much from here. It’s a kind of round-trip gastronomic ticket in which each leg of the journey adds local elements.
Zorionak to Topa and Dimensión for the ad, which we really like.
