Three days, three commemorations, all very different and all very important.

Monday, we remembered the heroes of the Battle of Cape Matxitxako.

On Tuesday, we remembered Lehendakari Aguirre on the anniversary of his birth.

And today, we remember another extraordinary Basque, Maurice Ravel.  We do so with an entry we wrote in 2016, but which has lost none of its value.  All that has changed is that we are now commemorating the 147th anniversary of his birth

And, by the way, there’s a fourth event this year, in 2022.  Tomorrow marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, whose first concert was held at the Arriaga Theater on March 8, 1922.  It was even conducted by Ravel himself in 1928, which can be seen immortalized in the header photo.
