The team in charge of organizing the 2020 Jaialdi has just announced they’re postponing it until 2021. It is now to be held from July 27 to August 1. The reason for this change is quite obviously the situation caused by the COVID-19 epidemic.
Jaialdi is one of the most important events put together by the Basque Diaspora, and is held every five years in Boise, Idaho. We’ve spoken about it on numerous occasions, both because of the huge impact it’s had in the media in the US and for its importance and influence, as it attracts Basques from all over the world.
We’re sure this delay by one year, a requirement given the current international situation, is not going to in any way reduce the interest in this festival, nor dampen the enthusiasm of the thousands of Basques who make this can’t-miss visit from the four corners of the globe.
We’ve always wanted to attend this grand Basque festival in the US; perhaps this small delay will now give us the opportunity to do so.
All our support and encouragement to the organizers, who, when making this complicated decision, showed common sense, responsibility, and a desire for this great festival to be the best it can be.
