Of all the objects named Bilbao that we’ve come across, these are, without a doubt, the greatest.  It’s true that we’ve collected a few that really stood out, like the armored vehicle called Bilbao, and others that were quite glamorous, like the one the New York Times showed off three years ago, with a “Bilbao-style” purse by designer Issey Miyake.

But these are undoubtedly those which would most stand out, even if only because of their size: the ships named Bilbao.

All of this got started when we came across a reference to a Dutch general container ship carrying the name Avis Bilbao.  Intrigued, we wondered how many other ships carry that name?  Where are they now?  So we found a website that is just a huge database of ships sailing the seven seas, Shipspotting, and one of those incredible sites that shows us where each ship is in real time: Vessel Finder.

And here’s the list of ships we found:
