The Euskadi Munduan Association was started with a clear conviction: the Basque nation exists.
-
- Not as a footnote to two other States.
- Not as a cultural curiosity.
- Not as a historical anecdote.
It exists as a historical and contemporary community that goes far beyond its administrative boundaries.
For centuries, the Basques have woven networks in the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. They have founded companies, created cooperatives, promoted cultural centers, developed universities, and organized communities. They have left a mark.
This international dimension is not an accident. It is part of our national reality.
A nation that goes beyond administrative boundaries
The Basque nation today is structured under different administrations in two States. This political reality, at least in part, conditions the way we are perceived abroad.
Frequently, what is Basque is diluted under national frameworks that do not fully reflect our collective identity.
But a national identity is not reduced to lines on a map. It is a historical, cultural, and social construct that transcends borders.
An open identity
Being Basque is not an ethnic or biological matter.
It does not depend on a surname or a DNA analysis.
The Basque nation has survived over the centuries because it has known how to adapt, integrate, and evolve.
We understand “Basque” to be an open community that, in the homeland as well as abroad, integrates those who say they are part of it and who work for a society that is freer, fairer, and more aware of itself.
The diaspora is not an appendix.
It is a living extension of the nation.
The responsibility for the international dimension
The way the world talks about the Basque influences how we are perceived. And perceptions matter.
- They matter economically.
- They matter culturally.
- They matter politically.
- They matter for our collective self esteem.
At the Euskadi Munduan Association, we believe that observing, documenting, and analyzing this international representation is not an exercise in vanity. It is an exercise in awareness.
Understanding how the narratives about our reality are made allows us to strengthen our own outlook.
Horizon
We believe in a free Basque nation made up of free people.
We believe in the ability of the Basque territories to voluntarily and as a confederation articulate a shared political project.
We understand that collective freedom is only possible if it is accompanied by international freedom, respect for human rights, social justice, and democratic compromise.
We reject violence as a political tool and defend that freedom can only be built through democratic legitimacy and civic responsibility.
Looking at the world to build the future
Peoples are not just what they are.
They are also what the world thinks they are.
Understanding that look, analyzing it, and situating it in its context is part of building our own future.
Euskadi Munduan is a tool for observation, analysis, and awareness.
Because knowing how we are perceived is a necessary step to deciding how we want to show ourselves.
This vision thus involves concrete initiatives that turn reflections into structure and awareness into action.
