Last December, we commented on how Bizkaia Talent had been awarded the 2020 International Place Marketing Prize by the La Chaire Attractivité & Nouveau Marketing Territorial – Chaire A&NMT (Regional Attractiveness & Place Marketing chair) in the economic development category.

This award should have been given out on April 3rd, in the 7th annual event which was to be held in Marseilles.  It goes without saying it’s been postponed.  So a virtual show was held June 22—26, when the prize was officially given to the Basque institution.

But, despite the importance of this recognition, this wasn’t the most noteworthy happening for Bizkaia Talent this month, at least from our point of view.

For us, that would be its participation in the creation of The European Talent Mobility Forum, because while the award talks about what’s already been achieved, being one of the eight leading European bodies for attracting and retaining regional talent which have created this alliance speaks to the prestige it’s attained and its clear view of the future.

The participation of the eight organizations making up this European body has, in all cases, been by strict invitation from the promoters of the Future Place Leadership.  They were chosen because they were considered to be “public or public/private associations that they “deem are the public or public/private partnerships, who are both the thought leaders and front-runners in Europe.”

This forum’s first event, dedicated to how to work in the special conditions COVID-19 has created raised interest in almost “200 government representatives, regional economic development boards, city leaders, global talent, innovation & startup hubs, universities, place branders and place makers from all over the world.”

Director of Talent Attraction at Future Place Leadership, Morten King-Grubert: “We have carefully selected what we deem are the public or public/private partnerships, who are both the thought leaders and front-runners in Europe. Their openness to knowledge sharing and collaboration across regions in this exciting place branding and economic development industry is an example to follow.“
