A few days ago, we published our own list of Basque museums you can tour, albeit virtually these days, or as a way to plan your upcoming trips when “things blow over”.  That’s the term my grandmother used to refer to the times of the Republic, before Franco, and honestly, it’s a very appropriate expression to refer to that time when we can again move about, meet up, and even just get outside.

We remembered that entry because today we came across an article that was published back at the end of March in The Guardianone of our most highly regarding newspapers, right up there with The New York Times.  This article is about the Ten Best Virtual Tours of Museums and Art Galleries of the World.

And as soon as we clicked on the link to this Antonia Wilson article, we were given an extra pleasant surprise: not only is the Basque Guggenheim included on the list, its brilliant façade shines through as the cover photo.

We’ll leave you with the list The Guardian has selected:

    • J Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles
    • Vatican Museums, Rome
    • Guggenheim, Bilbao
    • Natural History Museum, London
    • Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam
    • National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, South Korea
    • Musée d’Orsay, Paris
    • British Museum, London
    • MASP, São Paulo, Brazil
    • National Gallery, London

10 of the world’s best virtual museum and art gallery tours

Art lovers can view thousands of paintings, sculptures, installations and new work online – many in minute detail – as well as explore the museums themselves. There are various platforms: from interactive, 360-degree videos and full “walk-around” tours with voiceover descriptions to slideshows with zoomable photos of the world’s greatest artworks. And many allow viewers to get closer to the art than they could do in real life.
