The Argentine daily Rio Negro (which we’ve cited before on many occasions) has just published an article by Jorge Tanos discussing the story of the birth of the first natural Basque cider in Argentina.

The cider, made with Pink Lady apples and bottled under the name Txapela, is produced in the Argentine Patagonia, specifically in the Juliá y Echarren colony in Río Negro province.  It’s a collaboration between Patagonia Astigarraga SAS, owned by Xabier Aguirre and Ainara Otaño, alongside the Cooperativa de Comercialización y Transformación de Colonia Juliá y Echarren, which is where it’s made by a team that has a long tradition of collaboration with the Basque company Petritegi.

In their first year, they’ve produced 45,000 L (12,000 gal), and all signs to them doubling that production in no time.

Rio Negro – 9/2/20120 – Argentina
